FACT OR FICTION?

It is important to separate fact from fiction, especially when it comes to our eyesight. Taking care of your eyes is the key to protecting your sight for a lifetime!

FICTION: Eating plenty of carrots is one way to improve vision.

FACT: Carrots contain Vitamin A, an essential vitamin for eyesight. However, only a small amount is necessary for good vision.

FICTION: Improper eyewear will damage your eyes.

FACT: Corrective glasses and contact are needed to improve eyesight, but using your eyes with or without glasses will not damage them further.

FICTION: Eye exams are only necessary when you are experiencing problems.

FACT: Many eye diseases and problems do not cause significant symptoms early in the disease process. Eye examinations at regular intervals will help ensure that problems can be detected before they begin to cause severe vision loss or ocular symptoms.

FICTION: Reading in dim light can harm your eyes.

FACT: Reading in dim light will not harm your eyes, but can cause eye fatigue.

FICTION: After laser surgery (LASIK), you never need to have another eye exam.

FACT: You need periodic eye exams to monitor the health of your eyes. Normal vision does not mean you have healthy eyes.

FICTION: Sight loss cannot be prevented.

FACT: Proper safety eyewear and regular eye exams can help save your sight.
